Originally built around 1895 by a retired ship Captain this classic Summer Place has been in the same family for over 100 years it is now being offer for sale. the current owners grandparents had to take a ferry to get here from Chicago and then horses to the house. While Cottage Row is now a modern roadway it still holds much of the charm from yesteryear. While some may consider replacing the existing home with a more modern residence some will be enthralled with the existing structure and its history. the living room, bedrooms, and sunroom on the water side appear to be the original structure. the wood ceiling resembles an inverted ships hull which makes sense since the original owner and builder spent most of his time on ships. there are 2 fireplaces in this section, one of brick in the greatroom and one of beachstone in the master bedroom. the bathrooms are basic but functional. the master bedroom is on the water side so you can listen to the waves crashing on the shore at night.Other sections of the house include another bedroom suite (with water views), another sunroom, full bath, kitchen, and dining room. there are 2 more fireplaces in this section.Outside there is the old ice house (where the used to pack ice in sawdust), a pump room, and beautiful stone terraces. In 1987 the current permanent dock was built. this concrete dock includes davits, concrete ramp, small dry boathouse, and large patio.Across the street is a garage/barn building and a garage with workshop (where the caretaker made many of wardrobes and chests of drawers for the house). You will notice remnants of the old irrigation system as well (windmill). Next door is the tennis court. While in need of resurfacing this was originally a clay court that was paved over around 1960. there is beautiful stonework on the cliff side that also holds a viewing area.History buff or not you will appreciate this rare offering on Door Countys most desirable road, Cottage Row in Fish Creek Wisconsin. Your Summer Place awaits.
